25th December 2017
Whoa! is it that time of year already? ... Appears so. TND is proud to bring you a big stocking filler as a real Christmas treat. We have a couple of SEUCK Redux games, a music demo and even a programmed C64 game from yours truly. There appears to be a little theme for this year's update. We dedicate this up date to SHOOT 'EM UPS!

We start the Shoot 'Em up theme with a special SEUCK Redux edition of Dark Destroyer 2117. A game which I originally released with Scene World issue 27, to cover for the SEUCK 30th Anniversary feature. The aliens are now trigger happy and will aim for the player instead of fire random.

Dark Destroyer RX

Secondly comes a fun little shooter called Delta Run RX. This is a slightly more revamped version of the original Delta Run. Some graphics have been redesigned, and there are also some newer enemies replacing some of the aliens I least liked. The game also features slightly harder game play, and less slow down syndrome. Battle your way across 4 Delta bases, and put an end to the space piracy conspiracy.

Delta Run RX

Space Crumpets? What the heck?... Well Christmas time cannot be without a novelty. So with a bit of spare time I had left, I decided to generate a fully enhanced SEUCK game with some of the old assets I originally created for a couple of my game projects. Space Crumpets is a zany space shoot 'em up for 1 or 2 players. Your crumpets have been fired out into deep space. Its mission, to repair Earth's space satellites in order to restore TV and Radio broadcasting. The aliens don't like the idea, so they attempt to TOAST the crumpets. It's a wacky idea, but that's the game for you :) - CRUMPETS AT THE READY!

Space Crumpets

Next comes something completely different, compared to SEUCK. It is a horizontal scrolling Shoot Em Up by TND Games, called Starfysh. It also features a nice loading bitmap by JonEgg, and game graphics by Shaun Pearson. Your mission is to guide Starfysh through 4 sectors, defending the 4 RB2017 rescue space stations against the attacking alien forces. Go on, give 'em a good blast. GIVE THEM HELL!

MIX BOX #5 - Autumn / Winter edition

The long awaited 5th edition of the Mix Box music demo has now been released. It features a brand new layout and yet another 5 tunes to get your Christmas party started. Most tunes are Goat Tracker tunes, but there's also a DMC V4 tune of mine implemented inside the demo.

Preparations for Christmas 2017
There is quite a lot of things going on behind the scenes over the past 2 months. TND is preparing for an update this Christmas with yet more goodies for you to enjoy. So far is a complete music demo, and a couple of SEUCK Redux versions of two previously released SEUCK game titles. However, there is just one more BIG SURPRISE in store this Christmas, which I cannot really tell you about, but as soon as it has been released, you might enjoy it :)

2 Contributor's Releases

Many of us retro programmers, like to use cross-development software, in order to build C64 games. However, back in the old days there have been people who wrote games using a machine code monitor, and referring to books. Quite an educational thing, and very hard. Clever64 (Peter) has supplied TND a couple of his own creations, which were programmed using the aid of an Action Replay cartridge.

Manky V2 By Clever64

The first entry starts with Manky. An amusing platform game, inspired by many of the classic platform games of the good old 1980's. Usually we see miners jumping over obstacles in order to collect keys and teleport to the next screen, or farmers picking up eggs, and avoiding chickens. However to continue the mode of the classic early 1980's platformer. It is a comical platform game, featuring a gorrilla, who needs to go to the toilet. Run around each room, pick up toilet paper and eggs, then rush to the toilet for your reward.

This way to Manky V2

Moggy By Clever64

The second and final entry for today is Moggy. Similar to Manky, you play a hero called Moggy. He must pick up keys around each room, then exit the door. Watch out for enemies. Should they hit Moggy, he will lose one of his lives. Avoid the bushes.

It's all so quiet - but is it really?
You may have discovered that there hasn't been any updates since the 8th September 2017. TND is still active, and there are still productions being created, or are still under the pipeline. I have been busy producing a little blaster for Scene World, also Cruiser-X 79 is still under development and probably won't be finished until some time in 2018. This doesn't mean that TND is producing nothing else. Probably because there are a few other productions in store before the year ends. Including Mix Box 5, Delta Run RX, and also a little something else, which is being produced behind the scenes. Watch this space :)

Vortex Crystals 2017 - Final Edition Released
Finally, it is done and now announced. The final and finished version of what was originally an RGCD 16KB cartridge game competition entry, is finally a full and finished game. Vortex Crystals is a single screen platform shoot 'em up, packed with pure 8-bit arcade action. A scientist was bitten by a small slimy green alien, and becomes a bigger version of it. Run into the complex and destroy all of the crystals. You will be automatically locked inside each room, and must battle against the aliens. Destroy the crystals and encounter the slimy green after the 16th chamber.

Unlike the 16kb version of the game. This game features a new front end presentation, hi score/name entry, new end sequence, additional game bug fixes, brand new music and in game sound effects. Freeload tape loader + master, and much more.

Last Touch [BLAZON] mega demo released
TND (or should I say Blazon) strikes back with a brand new demo production, first released last week on CSDB called Last Touch. This is a collection of oldschool demo parts, compiled together. This demo consists of a couple of unreleased demo parts by DFlame way back in time (Bitmap demo with sinus sprite scroll, digi sampling, and the end part). The demo also consists of unreleased graphics which he originally made. Most demo parts were programmed and put together by myself, but other people also contributed to the demo. So why not enjoy some rasters, a plasma, a wobbling bitmap,  a giant equalizer and a whole lot of music. Free entertainment for all.

Vortex Crystals News Update
Vortex Crystals is VERY CLOSE to completion, the game has a new front end, in game sound effects, additional missing elements in which the game was missing from the original 16KB Cartridge competition. The music score for the game by YogiBear is complete, howevber we come across a slight problem. The music is going to have to be implemented from a PC music editor into Goat Tracker, which of course will be my task. As soon as all of the music is in place, and the game is functioning 100percent. The game will be released on to the TND web site. For the timebeing you can play the original 16KB cartridge compo version of the game if you feel like it.

Cruiser X-79 Update
Our official 2017 Shoot 'Em Up, Cruiser X-79, is still at the beginning stages, but I can confirm that the main game engine is nearly finished. There is no full level set yet, but alien formation seems to be turning out quite nicely. You may have noticed a few of these in my blog page. Saul is still working on designing each level, before I can continue working on setting up the level attack patterns. Things are still turning out nicely. Visit the blog pages to find out more on this.

Spyders C64 - Chapter 1 by Mr. Nop

For a change no SEUCK games this time round. Mr. Nop has returned with a brand new C64 port of yet another classic PET game. This time it is called Spyders C64. Spyders is a Space Invaders style game, in which you must battle your way against an army of killer spiders. Armed with a cannon your mission is to fight the intergalactic spiders, by blasting them. Avoid their bullets, otherwise your ship will meet a penultimate fate called death. This game features thumping trance music, and arcade style blippy sound effects. Valkyrie 2 - The Templar by Eleanor Burns

While everyone is still waiting for the entries for the Spanish SEUCK Compo 2017, which we also support. Yet another SEUCK Compo entry has been submitted to the TND Contributor's page. This time round it is Valkyrie 2 - The Templar. A spooky Commando/MERCS inspired WW2 game, based in Transylvania. This game features and intro scene, and ending where a password needs entering to view it). There are also loads of impressive in game enhancements, which Eleanor Burns managed to place into the game. You play a nun, who has been bitten by Marizska, and must battle against the SS forces. Your quest involves rescuing captured children - and of course drinking more blood from some of the soldiers as well in order to score blood points.  There's some spooky atmospheric music in the background as well.

TND Proudly Presents Delta Run

The New Dimension is very proud to bring one of my own game creations which was produced as a week's challenge, and also has been submitted to the Spanish SEUCK Compo 2017 OlÚ about a day ago. This time it is a horizontal scrolling SEUCK game called 'Delta Run', which I designed and produced in a week from last Monday through to yesterday, during my short spare time. This game consists of 4 levels of pure blasting action, power ups, and more. All of which was done on my good old C64C, with aid of my 1541Ultimate 2 with TASM/Codenet plugin and a few PD tools. Fly your space ship across 4 different Delta Bases, battling against the alien space pirates, who were responsible for pilfering energy sources and valuable material from passers-by across the galaxy/. This game features a retrospective colourful front end with a pumping sound track, power ups, and much more. Why not check the game out to find out for yourself. (Original work files, documents + source code included).

Scene World Issue 27 - Released

Issue 27 of Pal/NTSC talk disk mag Scene World has been released. There has been so much activity going on, and this issue has been filled with quite a lot of spectaluar features, interviews, reviews and part 3 of the game programming tutorial, which focusses on Zap Zone, and alien formation. There's even a couple of new games Zap Zone and Dark Destroyer 2117 (SEUCK) included in the diskmag (Which I have also added to the TND Games section, should you wish to have separate games).

Scene World Issue 27

Dark Destroyer 2117 by TND Games

As mentioned above, Scene World issue 27. Dark Destroyer 2117 is a vertical scrolling SEUCK game I created specially to cover the Jon Hare podcast interview and the insight into SEUCK and its features. This game was produced back in October 2016 as something a bit different to programming a new game. It is the year 2117 and Planet Earth is under threat of a hostile alien planet, shaped like an asteroid. It is on a collision course for planet Earth. Two drones have been sent in to save the day. Fly into the alien planet and do battle against the aliens and their trajectories. Locate the weak spot of the planet and destroy it. Earth will then be saved. Or will it? Features an option for standard or enhanced version of the game.

Dark Destroyer 2117

Zap Zone by TND Games

This is a final build of a game tutorial I launched for Scene World issue 27 (You can download the source and data from the Scene World). In this game, you must fight your way through formation after formation of aliens. Avoid getting smashed by them, and also score as many points as you can. There are 20 different alien formation which to battle against. Can you beat your own high scores? Good luck

Zap Zone

Roberto's final game: Hunting for the Small Box

Since adding the new rules to the TND contributor's section in order to produce more quality than quantity. Roberto Ricioppo has decided to release just one more game before he calls it a day. Hunting for the Small Box is a little SEUCK game in which you must guide a yellow+blue space craft through each zone and battle against various enemies. Watch you don't get your ship destroyed. After all, it would be embarassing for a space ship to get destroyed by dice. Hahahaha :)

Contributor's games - Changes to submission

TND has been very kind to host brand new game productions from contributors, mainly SEUCK as such, however there seems to be an issue with quantity rather than quality. Also we have limited web space as well. I have decided that from today onwards, new submission programs will be evaluated for quality, rather than quantity.
I have created a page on future submissions to TND's contributor's pages .

Please read the following guidelines below:

Notepad64 by Matteo Angelini

Usually in the contributors section we tend to be overrun with SEUCK game creations. Now today is something completely different. Matteo Angelini delivers to TND's contributor's section Notepad 64. It is a simple SEQ text viewer/page editing tool, in which allows you to create or modify SEQ files, for your own personal/fun use.

SEUCK School Update

A brand new entry has been added into this edition of the SEUCK School update. This time it is all about jazzing your SEUCK game up with single char background animation. The tutorial goes through on how to select a character to scroll, and different methods on how to scroll the character. The feature also consists of SEUCK push parallax scrolling. Where the background will scroll when the screen is moving. The feature caters for both standard and horizontal scrolling SEUCK. Huge thank you goes to Eleanor Burns, with help from Jon Wells for sharing the Push Scroll Parallax trick.

New TND Contributor's SEUCK game

Did you enjoy the SEUCK Compo 2017? It doesn't mean the end of SEUCK. In fact, here's another great SEUCK game to keep you entertained. :)

NERO by Igor Errazkin

Igor Errazkin delivers yet another stunning SEUCK creation, with a classic 80's style loading picture (Which I felt the black+blue border loading scheme fit nicely into the loader). The game is called NERO. It features not only a nice retro loading scheme, but also the front end is built like a star chart. It also features a Galwaynized tune, which I composed specially for the title screen. You play NERO, a space agent from Earth. A red planet is under siege by space pirates. Your mission is to fly to the Red planet and fight the pirates, in order to restore peace to the planet. After you have thwarted the pirates, locate the control centre, kill the guards and make your escape back to earth. Otherwise NERO MUST DIE.

Main Ninja by Igor Errazkin

We have two brand new games from Igor Errazkin. First up is Main Ninja. A SEUCK game, which unfortunately had many problems with the original version of the game. The plan was to submit it to the SEUCK Compo 2016/17. Sadly the game didn't qualify. The player always got stuck on the background after losing a life. Instead we both agreed on getting this game working, by installing it into the SEUCK Redux source, and add a ninja style tune. Guess what? It worked :). In this game, you become a fearless ninja who is on his way home, after a day's training at the TND Dojo. Trouble is, however you have a treacherous journey home. Enemy Ninjas and other enemies will be awaiting to fight you. Watch out for bird poop, and also watch out for the lose bricks falling from the old TND HQ building.

Main Ninja

Super ACE 1942 by Igor Errazkin

Finally for today, we have Super ACE 1942, also written by Igor Errazking. This is a stunning SEUCK WW2 game, inspired by Capcom's classic 1942. This SEUCK game features a couple of in game enhancements I added to the game as well, such as flowing water and a nice Ikari Warriors style in game tune. The game idea is simply to fly through each sector fighting the enemy forces by land, sea or air. So why not strap yourself into a WW2 fighter plane and shout out Tally Ho. Once again, it doesn't class as a SEUCK compo entry, because it wasn't inteded to :)

The Hunter by Igor Errazkin

Another entry makes its way to the MOD SQUAD category for the SEUCK Compo. This time it is a horizontal scrolling SEUCK underwater shoot 'em up, written by Igor Errazkin. In The Hunt,  you take control of a submarine, which must go into the abyss and battle against mutant creatures (which got drugged by a spy trawler) and collect spinning coins for bonus points. Watch out for the giant mutant creatures, and end of stage bosses. One hit, and say bye, bye to one of your submarines. There's also some funny jokes implemented in this fun shoot 'em up. Have fun playing this funny game.

The Flame Still Burns
Keeping the spirit of the good old C64. The New Dimension and friends all gather round to produce a farewell demo to DFlame. A few weeks later than planned, The Flame Still Burns demo has finally come out of the production works and is ready for release. This demo consists of oldschool effects, such as static and rolling raster bars. Also there's a simple tech-tech effect. The demo also consists of STE/Meanteam's logo, and finally a nice piece of music by Mr. Mouse/Xentax. Finally there's a few messages from various people who contributed messages of respect, to DFlame, who sadly passed away on 23rd December 2016. This demo is dedicated to him. R.I.P :(

Zap Fight 2 - Zapped to Oblivion by Alf Yngve and Psytronik Software
I just love futuristic blasters. Alf Yngve and Psytronik Software brings yet another free contributor's game, which was originally planned for the Fourth series of the Shoot Em Up Destruction Set. However the game was removed from the round up, due to a limited number of games for the compilation, and also another  futuristic blaster existed in the compilation. So Alf, Kenz and I joined forces to submit this game to Reset's Mix-I-Disk, and we also have the rights to upload this brilliant blaster on to the TND contributor's page. Zap Fight 2 is an excellent tribute to Slap Fight. Although this game was created with SEUCK, and enhanced with SEUCK Redux. It consists of many great features, power ups, new front end and also thumping trance music - which suits the style of game. Happy blasting everybody!

20th January 2017

NEW ENTRY SUBMITTED: Border War 3 by Alf Yngve.
Back in 1989 came Border War, 1992 came Border Blast 2. Now, the original game author, Alf Yngve surprises the fans of the Border War game series with a third sequel called Border Blast 3. This time it is a game for 1 or 2 players. The USA has been held captive by an evil Tyrant, who illegally captures the country with a force field - originally made for shielding the USA from future enemy attack. Then he sends his army to seize the country. It is now up to you go and blast hell out of the enemy forces and weaponry. This game features some clever features, and also a front end with patriotic colour bars and Matt Gray style title tune. Happy blasting!
